Overthrowing Your Teen’s Problems
If someone tells me that between the ages 12-18 he/she had no problems, concerning
behavioral or emotional struggles, then I will simply think that he/she has
never been that age.
When I was 15, I had many problems, which quite often I even tried to impose
on my parents. But I don’t know why: maybe I just wanted to be in the center
of their attention or just because I wanted them to feel the pain I felt. But
what pain or why did I need that attention when I already had it? I don’t know
and I am sure no one knows. And that is the reason why these problems are called
teen troubles or problems.
Teens’ troubles usually overcome with time, but there are teens among whom
these troubles develop to more severe issues. Today there are special residential
treatment centers that will help your teen to overcome them.
I am sure that if you have a troubled teen, then you are asking yourselves:
“Do I need to take my son or daughter to such centers or not?”. Not
every teen should be taken to treatment centers. If your child is always in
bad mood, has a constant feeling of low self-esteem or is talking to you negatively,
still doesn’t mean that he/she needs professional help. The troubles I am talking
about are more serious and more extreme.
Therapeutic boarding schools are for those teens who have the following troubles:
• Personality disorders
• Traumatic or post-traumatic stress
• Suicide attempts
• Self-harm (burning their body, cutting themselves, sticking things in
their body, taking tablets)
• Constant anxiety
• Depression
• Sexual promiscuity
• Family isolation
• Eating disorders
• Abuse and neglect
If you have made up your mind to send your teen to a therapeutic boarding school,
then you should start considering which one. Fortunately there are tens of thousands
of boarding schools available. There are military boarding schools, girls boarding
schools, specialty boarding schools and so on. Each of them offers special treatment
programs, so you will have to carefully think over the one where your child
will receive his/her treatment.
I want to say that in my case my parents took me to one of the Christian boarding
schools, where I realized the importance of religion in my life, regained my
moral values and respect for me and others and so on. Today I am very thankful
to my parents for that.
