DIM – The wonder compound?
DIM, that has literally turned cancer treatment on its head, has also been offered as a supplement that has unique immune modulating properties. Of course, this compound is found most commonly in Brassica vegetables namely cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and kale, and should remind you of the times when your mom always told you to eat your vegetables.
How Diindolylmethane is formed is by the autolytic breakdown of glucobrassicin, and as research has shown the positive effects that it has on cancer along with Taxol, scientists are currently investigating its effect on a series of viral an bacterial diseases such as the Pandemic Flu, HPV, HIV, Hepatitis and Influenza among several others.
And this discovery has been due to the fact that it has been found to be an immune system booster, and in regards to the treatment of cancer reduced the patient’s resistance to Taxol.
If you haven’t noticed already, not only does this compound have anti-cancer properties but it also reduced the risk of getting breast cancer by almost 40 % while reducing the chances of men getting prostate cancer by almost 52 %.
However, there are other compounds found in Brassica that work in conjunction with DIM such as Sulforaphane and Selenium, and thus are also treated just as importantly as this compound.
Whether or not these promising results in the treatment of cancer will be interesting news (and a breakthrough) for the medical community but what is for sure is that this compound will be in the news for sometime for the diverse benefits that it is capable of.
