Comparing Facebook Marketing Investments and Display Marketing Investments – By Ted Dhanik
These two methods of marketing are often compared because of their similarities in style. However, the results are ostensibly different and noticeable, and for a few reasons.
First, Facebook marketing is a somewhat generalized marketing base. The users are tracked in what pages they like and what they look at often, and so the advertisements on the page are generated and displayed based on this information. This is how Facebook determines their marketing space.
In comparison, display marketing is also advertised to a niche audience, based on research of the company’s current consumer’s and target audience.
Between the two, the people that are being marketed to are different. On Facebook, businesses buy marketing space based on the amount of traffic on specific pages. With display advertising, marketing space is purchased only according to the specifics of the type of traffic, so as to guarantee that the people who view the page it is on are more likely to buy their product.
Facebook is a great marketing tool to reach a generalized audience through the web. Similar to traditional media in that the business uses the interface to send a message, this is how businesses use Facebook- to promote their business from the viewpoint that they want. The comparison of display marketing, however, comes a radically different point of view. With display marketing, advertisements are only shown to a niche audience who are well researched and are more likely to actually purchase the product than just view it and raise the business’ CPC. This allows the business to market what the consumer wants to buy, not what they want to sell.
Each method of advertising supports different types of companies. And both types of marketing are growing. It depends on the business as to which will be most successful.
