Called to Serve
Depending on your skill set, every person is predisposed to excel at different fields and professions. For instance, if you are a risk taker, good with numbers and are a networking ninja, then perhaps a career in business or finance and investments is for you. If you are curious and inquisitive, then perhaps a career in the sciences and research is for you. If you are the type of person that likes to be in the action and is concerned about the safety of your fellow man, then perhaps a life in emergency response or firefighting is for you.
Being in emergency services is a very honorable profession. While EMTs and firefighters make less than lawyers and investment bankers, they give society much in terms of sleeping well at night knowing that there are people out there looking out for them in the event of an emergency. Emergency responders risk their life and sacrifice so much of their time so others can be safe and can enjoy quality time with their loved ones.
If you have the calling to become a firefighter or EMT, then you should not let anything stop you and get trained and sign up for work. Before you can do that though, you will need to go to EMT school or fire school. Luckily, training to serve does not require hundreds of thousands of dollars. In fact, you can become a certified EMT or firefighter for as low as $1000. This is convenient too because concepts can be learned online before the practical tests.
