The medical school personal statement and other essays
Getting into medical school in any country is a difficult business. In the U.S. it is even more so. With the standard of education being so high, the only thing that sets apart students from their exam scores is the medical school personal statement.
If only a few students had high GPA scores and MCAT scores, administrators of schools would have no problem in choosing will be allowed to join the school. But this is not the case and most students seem to possess similar scores. So the administration is left with the task of trying to figure out who are the ideal candidates for their medical programs.
Essentially the medical school personal statement or medical school application essay (as it is commonly known) and graduate school admission essay are the same. This is because both essays give a student the chance to put for their case for being admitted. Often, students are only evaluated based on their essays and test scores because administrators simply cannot physically interview all applicants. This makes the essay a valuable and critical part of a student’s application.
A lot of thought and care must go into the writing of the essay. Key points in the essay should be
1.Who you are (character wise)
2.What you have achieved (academically and otherwise)
3.Why you deserve to be accepted
4.What motivates you and how you apply yourself to any task.
It’s almost like as if you were on trial and you had to make your argument to prove that you are innocent. But that is what you have to do to stand out from among the crowd and be noticed.
